Magnum Band & Zin @ SOBs

OpastaffBy OpastaffNovember 16, 20073 Mins Read

Bands: Magnum Band & Zin
Date: November 16, 2007
Club: SOBs in Manhattan

Last night’s, party goers at SOBs got to experience one of the series best edition at Haitian French Caribbean Night. Although the party started off a little late, however, Magnum band did more than makeup for it. My only regret is I didn’t have my father there since he’s the ones who introduced me to Magnum Band while growing up. I’m sure he would have enjoyed the show.

Magnum band took the stage first and started their set with the song, Ou la la. After that they hit the party goers with some of their classic hits like Jehovah, Liberte, Paka Pa La and Dadou did an instrumental with When a Man Loves a Woman. One lady who was enjoying herself on the dance floor during one song that song got so overwhelmed by the performance, she stopped dancing and stood there at awe while tears were pouring down her eyes. When I asked her why was she crying, she told me not only does the song take her back to her younger years, but the lyrics are just really touching. The band played incredibly well and it was shocking to see the turn out wasn’t as much as it should have been but it was decent. I got a chance to meet our very own Leon Azul, he’s just as cool in person as he is online. It was a pleasure meeting you, Paul.

After Magnum played, Zin took the stage with their new addition to the band, Ms. VEE. I was surprised to see she wasn’t as nervous as one would have thought she would be. I remember Nia’s first night performing with Zin at Cenegal night Club in Brooklyn. Nia was very nervous. I saw her in the rest room with Queen Dada giving her some pointers and going over the lyrics but VEE was calm and collected. The chemistry between her and Sandra was good. Their interaction on stage seemed genuine and I hope it last. I made sure I listened closely to see if her mic was on and during sound check and yes it was, not only for sound-check but through out the night. Y’all got me out here spying on people, the things that I do for you Opaers.

Zin started off with Je Femen and went on to play Boubout, Jwen and Sere Koze’w. Gabby was on fire last night it was just unbelievable. I really enjoyed his solo. The whole band was just all in tune with each other and they seem to be having a lot of fun on stage. Throughout the night, you can see VEE’s character changing as if it finally kicked in that she was standing in front of a stage, with on lookers such as fans, and critics all looking and judging her. I wondered for a second if she was thinking about what reviews she would be getting in the morning. She came in there very confident but throughout the night, her level of confidence went down a couple of notches from confident to almost reserved. It’s natural for a new singer, especially if she’s not doing any leads. I think Zin should have rehearsals though when they’re trying to break in a new singer. Overall, it was a great night, I got my staying up all night’s worth.

No, they were not fighting, they were just playing around and I asked for that pose. Laughing

Bon kisa maestro tap di VEE la li. Smile
