The weather spared no mercy, and with the switches in the lineup from Zenglen & Djakout and finally going with Krezi Mizik & Djakout, the promoters still prevailed. The turnout was excellent with an estimated 1800 or more, the crowd well behaved and both bands delivered one of their best performances.
First up was Krezi Mizik whom the fans seem to be getting used to with each performance. They did a good job. One thing I’ve complained about Krezi in the past is their lack of showmanship but the band seems to be more into delivering good music rather than using more animation to move the crowd. It’s like they were saying “We let our music do all the animation and moving the crowd.” They performed a few songs from their new album; like Ti Mafi and Negosye. I did get there a little after midnight but it was already a full house. They moved the crowd or should I say, they let their music move the crowd.
Next up was Djakout Mizik. Djakout got on stage and broke the place in half. While the reviews of their album seem to be split amongst fans and critics, there’s no doubt when it comes to their live performances… everybody is on the same page. Djakout Mizik was on fire last night and I heard nothing different from the previous night at SOBs. Djakout played Ma Seule Folie, Biznis Pam, Eskive, Jistis and a couple others. Some ladies were having a little too much fun to the point they lost their religion and jumped on stage and used it as their own personal dance floor. It was pure pandemonium in there last night.
I’ve said it before and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, 2007 looks very promising. While a lot of people said it was a bad move to release all of these albums at once, I feel it was a good move. More variety and that alone will force the bands to deliver their best if they want to stay in the game. The only problem at first may be digesting all of these albums at once but if you go out, you’ll keep up.
