Haitian singer, actor, and former senator Gracia Delva is mourning the loss of his beloved mother, Marie Saintilia Delva, affectionately known as “Mante Titine,” who passed away on October 29, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on June 19, 1939, in Gonaïves in the town of Trois Ponts, Ms. Delva spent most of her life in Dessalines. As a devoted single mother, she was an unwavering support to her only child, Gracia, raising him with love and resilience. Their close bond often surfaced in Delva’s music, especially in the song “Manman” with Mass Konpa. One of his popular expressions, “Manman Montre’m Papa’m” (“Mother, Show Me My Father”), served as a heartfelt slogan and term of endearment that captured his deep affection and gratitude toward her.
The heartbreaking news of her passing was confirmed by Wadner Joseph, manager of Delva’s band, Mass Konpa. According to reports, Mante Titine was taken to the Claire Heureuse Dessalines hospital after experiencing a brief illness, where she ultimately took her last breath early that morning.
Gracia Delva, born on June 9, 1974, in Cap-Haïtien, grew up in Marchand Dessalines and rose to fame in the Haitian music scene with popular bands like Djakout Mizik and Zenglen before founding Mass Konpa in 2003. Known for his charismatic stage presence and vocal talent, Delva became a leading figure in kompa music, eventually transitioning to politics. Elected as deputy for Marchand Dessalines and later as senator for Artibonite, he dedicated himself to advocating for Haitian youth and culture.
Mante Titine’s passing leaves Delva, an only child, to shoulder this profound loss alone. This personal tragedy touches not only Delva’s family but also his extensive fan base and the wider Haitian community who admired her resilience and strength as a single mother.
As Delva navigates this difficult time, we extend our deepest condolences to him, his family, the members of Mass Konpa, and everyone affected by Mante Titine’s passing. May her memory live on, bringing peace and strength to those who loved her.
