Miami, September 24, 2009 — Haitian artists in South Florida are joining forces to support disaster relief efforts in Haiti with a special benefit event titled “911 Haiti: A Disaster Relief Effort.” The concert will take place on Monday, September 29, 2008, at Marabou Café, where the popular “Bouyon Night” will be transformed into a star-studded evening of music, dance, and comedy in solidarity with Haiti.

Several leading Haitian bands are confirmed to perform, including Nu-Look, Zenglen, Hangout, and T-Vice. Invitations have also been extended to prominent artists such as Sweet Micky, Harmonik, Robert Martino, Dadou Pasquet, La Rose, Wilki Fortuna, Fuzion, Gabel, Suave, Volume, Tandans, Suav Mizik, Ka-Tel Kreyol, Bemol Telfort, and Misty Jean, as well as others currently based in South Florida.

The evening will also feature cultural performances, with dancers such as Nirva Pierre (Miss Haiti 2008) and comedians including Tonton Nord entertaining the crowd.

Patrick Goldman of PG Duplicating, one of the event organizers, emphasized the importance of the timing: “We are lucky there is no school the next day.” Marabou Café will open at 1:00 p.m. to begin collecting donations, with live media coverage starting at 6:00 p.m. on Haitian radio stations including 90.1 FM Touche Douce.

Admission requires a minimum donation of $20 plus a can of food. All proceeds will benefit Haiti’s disaster relief efforts. The non-profit organization Food For The Poor (www.foodforthepoor.org) will be the sole group responsible for collecting funds and canned goods at the venue. The organization has already sent more than 90 containers of aid to Haiti, valued at nearly $8 million.

Event organizers stress the importance of transparency in the fundraising process. “Haitians in the diaspora have a way of coming together when Haiti is in crisis,” said Jean H. Richard (Richie) of Zenglen. “We know every little bit helps. Come and enjoy Bouyon Night in the name of those who cannot.”

Members of the press are invited to cover the event in full.

Organizers are confident the evening will be a memorable show of solidarity, with the Haitian community coming together to support their homeland in a time of need.
