In what can only be described as a ludicrously poor decision, a wanted Haitian man in Palm Beach County made the job of local law enforcement a walk in the park—quite literally. Moise Dorcelin, the not-so-slick 37-year-old, strolled into the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office on a sunny Monday morning, with a bizarre request that left officials scratching their heads.
Dorcelin, apparently displeased with his internet fame, demanded that the police remove his “wanted” photo from social media and their website. The photo in question? It was snapped from surveillance footage showing a man wanted for a cellphone theft at a Mobil gas station on Forest Hill Boulevard back on May 15.
As it turns out, Dorcelin recognized his own face in the circulated images and decided the best course of action was to confront the matter head-on—by walking straight into the lion’s den. “That’s me, but I didn’t steal it,” Dorcelin reportedly told the baffled detectives, claiming he merely picked up the phone but never stole it.
The irony of the situation didn’t escape the officers; Dorcelin had effectively handed himself over to the authorities on a silver platter. Without hesitation or the need for a pursuit, the deputies promptly arrested him. He was charged with larceny-grand theft and subsequently released on bond.
This flabbergasting episode left many amused and bewildered at the sheer foolishness of the self-captured thief. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office didn’t have to lift a finger to catch Dorcelin; he did all the heavy lifting for them. Truly, this was one for the books—a dumb criminal story that Palm Beach won’t soon forget.
