In a deeply emotional address delivered via social media, Richard Cavé, the renowned keyboardist and singer of Carimi now of Kai, paid a heartfelt tribute to his late colleague, Michael Benjamin, known affectionately as Mikaben. With tears in his eyes, Cavé extolled the virtues of his friend and collaborator, whom he credited with much of his success in the music industry.

Richard Cavé, visibly shaken yet composed, spoke candidly about Mikaben’s invaluable contributions to the Haitian music scene and his personal life. Describing Mikaben as a versatile and cheerful collaborator, Cavé highlighted his indomitable spirit and generosity. “Haiti has lost one of its greatest talents,” Cavé lamented, adding that Mikaben was the cornerstone of the Kaï group, a project that marked a significant chapter in both their careers. “If I am what I am today, it is thanks to Mika. When I formed Kaï, Mika left everything to join me,” Cavé recounted, emphasizing the deep personal and professional bond they shared.

During his emotional speech, Cavé also issued a plea to the Haitian public to show greater appreciation and love for artists while they are still alive. Reflecting on the unpredictable nature of life, he urged everyone to take life seriously and cherish each moment. Cavé concluded his message by extending his deepest condolences to Mikaben’s family, particularly his wife, underscoring the profound loss felt by the community.

The music world and fans continue to mourn the untimely departure of Mikaben, a loss that resonates deeply across the Haitian community and beyond.
