Nu Look’s Arly Lariviere Involved in Second Car Accident Amidst Tour
Gonaives, Haiti – August 08, 2009 — Tragedy has struck twice for the renowned Haitian konpa band, Nu Look. As previously reported by Opa, members of the band were involved in a fatal car accident a few days ago in Haiti. The accident claimed the life of a 2-year-old boy who was crossing the street when the vehicle carrying Nu Look’s members Arly Lariviere, Ralph Conde, and others was involved.
Despite the devastating incident, Nu Look made the decision to proceed with their tour as planned. This decision would later be marred by further tragedy when another accident occurred involving the band’s maestro, Arly Lariviere, and a female friend.
The accident took place last night on the way to a gig in Gonaives, Haiti. The rest of the band had already arrived at their destination, having departed Port-au-Prince at around 4:00 PM. However, Arly Lariviere and his companion did not leave the capital until 9:00 PM, a time when the roads are particularly dark and hazardous.
According to sources, Arly was the driver in this second accident but was not involved in the earlier incident. The female friend, who is reported to be in serious condition, may face the loss of her arm and is being transported back to the United States for further medical treatment.
Adding to the distressing situation, rumors suggest that the band was compelled to perform at the Gonaives gig for safety reasons. Ticket holders reportedly demanded that Nu Look play as scheduled, under threat of repercussions. The band is also rumored to be continuing with their tour despite the recent setbacks.
Our thoughts are with the family of the young boy who tragically lost his life, and we wish a swift and full recovery to Arly Lariviere’s female friend. The events underscore a challenging period for Nu Look, as they navigate the aftermath of these incidents while continuing their tour.
