After an eight-year stint with the renowned Brutus team, Kenny Desmangles is revisiting his origins by reconstituting his former band, 509, spurred by popular demand. “At the request of the public, I am reforming 509,” announced the ex-Zenglen vocalist, promising a resurgence before the summer break. This decision marks a pivotal turn in Desmangles’ career, which has seen him become a significant name in the music industry through his distinctive vocal style and dynamic performances.
In a refreshing reunion, Desmangles will collaborate once again with Ralph Ménélas to breathe new life into 509. The revamped lineup will include both familiar faces and fresh talent, whose details will be unveiled in the coming weeks. Desmangles, who is still celebrated for the hit “Fake” with 509, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “Previously, it was I who introduced 509 to the public; now, our fans are clamoring for its return. This makes me both happy and proud of our legacy.”
The artist’s departure from Zenglen on February 15 was not a move towards retirement but a strategic step to focus on solo projects and now the rejuvenation of 509. Despite his claim of unity with Zenglen, underlying tensions surfaced, leading to his exit. His departure followed discrepancies with the band’s administration, including uncommunicated recruitment of new singers and a lack of support during his health crises, as detailed in his resignation letter.
Desmangles cited several grievances with Zenglen’s management, including financial disputes and a lack of transparency which, according to him, eroded the trust and respect necessary for a collaborative relationship. “The financial recognition for producing 80% of the hit album ‘Rezilta’ is still pending. Alongside this, the non-payment for performances and the spread of misleading information about me pushed me to step back,” Desmangles shared in a detailed press release.
Despite the rocky end to his tenure with Zenglen, Desmangles is keen on maintaining amicable relations with former bandmates. He reflects positively on his time with the band, cherishing the moments spent making music with fellow musicians. Now, his focus shifts to “Full Sèvis” and the reinvigoration of 509. The launch plans for 509 include releasing a single with an accompanying music video, signaling a robust comeback.
Meanwhile, Desmangles continues promoting his album “Full Sèvis,” which he claims is performing well in the market, citing positive feedback and strong sales. “It’s among the best-selling albums according to distributors, and its tracks are highly requested,” he noted. As he juggles his solo endeavors and the revival of 509, Desmangles is also investing in professional structures and advanced marketing strategies to target audiences in Miami, Paris, Montreal, and the Caribbean.
Fans of Kenny Desmangles can look forward to the release of “My Train,” a standout track from “Full Sèvis,” expected later this week, as anticipation builds for the grand return of 509 to the Haitian Music Industry (HMI).
