The relationship between Konpa Kreyol and their current label, Nouvel Jenerasyon, appears to be facing significant challenges, according to sources close to the situation. What was once a solid partnership with label owner Joubert Charles seems to have entered a difficult phase, with tensions reportedly building over the past year. If things don’t change soon, the situation could reach the point of no return—if it hasn’t already.
Insiders suggest that Konpa Kreyol may be considering a move to A.C. Records, the label headed by Alan Cavé. Sources indicate that a potential business relationship between Konpa Kreyol and A.C. Records could result in the group delivering their next studio album to Cavé’s label, signaling a possible shift in their allegiance.
Several incidents have strained the band’s relationship with Joubert Charles. One notable issue was a CD leak, in which material from Konpa Kreyol’s upcoming album was allegedly heard by their rivals, Carimi, months before its official release. While Joubert had no direct involvement in the leak, his close relationship with Carimi became a contentious factor in the matter, further complicating his ties with the band.
Another sore point came when Konpa Kreyol was forced to embark on a three-city CD release tour—without the actual CD. Factory delays caused the album to be unavailable in time for the release tour, and the band was left to navigate the awkward situation on their own. To make matters worse, Joubert was notably absent from the tour stops in Montreal, New York, and Boston, a fact that reportedly enraged the group.
As tensions continue to mount, questions are being raised about the state of Joubert’s once strong friendship with Ti Joe, Konpa Kreyol’s vocalist, and Fabiola Dupoux Leger, the band’s manager. Once a close-knit team, it’s unclear if their relationship can withstand the current strain.
Will Konpa Kreyol remain with Nouvel Jenerasyon, or are they poised to make the jump to A.C. Records? Only time will tell, but for now, it appears the group’s future is hanging in the balance.
