Haitian music producer Romel Barlatier, 44, of Pembroke Pines was fatally shot 16 times with a machine gun while sitting in a Mitsubishi Montero with a female passenger in front of Fritz Bonheur’s Studio located at 2980 W. 84th Street, Hialeah on June 17, 2004, at around 10:40PM. The suspect was also in a car, a van, when he pulled up in front of the victim’s car, got out and opened fire. The female passenger who’s been Identified but the information is being withheld by OpaMusic.com, ran inside and alerted the police.
The police have confiscated two cameras at the scene. Romel Barlatier was 44 years, married with children. Police currently have no motive but did rule it as a known hit, not a random act. The band founded and funded by Mr. Barlatier, was due to release their first single to immediately follow their studio album release. The band was the most anticipated band debut in a long time in the industry. The funeral for Romel Barlatier is planned for, June 26 at St. James Baptist Church, Northwest Seventh Avenue and 132nd Street in Miami. Mr. Barlatier was married with children, our deepest sympathy goes out the family.
UPDATE: Video footage which featured an individual dressed in all black, pulling up in a white, unmarked van next to the black Mitsubishi Montero which Romel Barlatier, 44 was sitting in with two passengers and opening fire with what might have been a machine gun. While the individual open fire, one of the passengers wearing all black and the other wearing light color clothing car jumped out of the car and headed in opposite directions. The footage was of poor quality. However, the Police hope the release of the video footage will help find the murderer of the Haitian Producer who was shot outside of Fritz Bonheur recording studio in Hialeah.
