Due to the climate of palpable uncertainty currently hanging over Port-au-Prince, in addition to the impossible task of reaching an agreement in time with the Carnival committee, the Djakout #1 group regrets to inform that it will not participate in the carnival festivities this year.
We believe it would be irresponsible if we did not take into account the participants who follow us religiously throughout the parade route. Our decision was not easy to make, because as musicians we are obliged to please our fans, but as human beings we are obliged to act in a way that does not feel guilty.
Safety is our priority, whether it is that of our musicians, staff, and participants. It would be pernicious to ignore the malaise that is taking hold in our country.
We certainly do not mean to discourage anyone from participating in the carnival festivities, the important thing is that everyone uses common sense, and stays safe.
That being said, we wish everyone a happy carnival and hope that peace and tranquility reign in Haiti and that God bless his children!
