Official Statement – “Por Favor” Copyright Infringement

Recently it was brought to our attention that there was a song circulating around in Curacao and Aruba that was doing very well with a severe similarity to CaRiMi’s original song, “Por Favor”.

Investigating it further we realized that the song in question, renamed “Mamasita,” was a direct replica of our original song. The beat and lyrics, yet translated, are a complete reproduction by Holland based artist, Randy Cordelia and Orchestra Cache Delux on their album entitled “Parisia Pa Bo Orea”, which they released in 2005. Presently on the Top 20 Charts in Holland, recently playing as the Number 4 song behind Daddy Yankee, Frankie Reyes and Sean Paul, this very popular band has been breaking records with the song and moving up the charts on a weekly basis since its release.

As much of a flattery, it is for musicians from other countries to enjoy our music and be partial to it to the point of remaking one of our songs, as professionals who work hard create and originate it is deemed important to us to receive the proper acknowledgment for our work.

Copyright infringement is the unauthorized use of copyrighted material in a manner that violates one of the copyright owner’s exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work or to make derivative works that build upon it. Thus, we are currently seeking to remedy this matter by requesting acknowledgment as writers of the song, as well as royalties from this particular band for the use of our material. CaRiMi Manager, Fito Farinen will be traveling to Aruba in the upcoming days to meet with the responsible parties to come to some sort of viable agreement before taking this issue to courts in search of positive legal ramifications.

We appreciate the care and love of our fans, and we stand firm on our desire to bringing Haitian music to the forefront for others to follow, but we will not stand for blatant disrespect of our craft without proper recognition.

Thank you again to all of you who had stood by CaRiMi throughout the years and for your continuous support. Without you, we would not be able to do the job we love so much!
