Nancy Sivol also known as Sissy, was a member of the Haiti based band, Back-Up. The band has since disband and Sissy is not currently active in the music scene.
Born in Port-au-Prince on November 20, 1987, Nancy Sivolfruit of the love of Dieudonné SIVOL, former manager of the Royal Haitian Hotel and of Gertha Evelyne SERVILUS, nurse at the Good End Hospital for more in their twenties. My two brothers Alix and Carlos complete the tiara that Heaven has placed on my mother’s forehead.
At five, I was taken to Les Cayes, my parents’ hometown where I spent no less than nine years, so a good part of my adolescence. I enjoyed the lust of the multiple corners of the south of our beloved Haiti and it was there that I lived my first love affairs. At the end of my primary studies, I was driven back to the capital, which I have never left since.
In the two houses where I lived, I left a mark, my voice! I do not pretend to be a singer from a very young age, but I always took pleasure in chirping to whisper a few scraps of songs, especially those of the group Zin, where my idol, the singer and dancer, Georgie Métellus, evolved. None of her interpretations, choreographer were unknown to me, to the point that my mother realized soon enough that I planned to follow her steps. Loving and understanding, she has always motivated me to make my dreams come true without neglecting my academic training. Today, I think she is far from disappointed, because I work in the Back-Up Family group as a vocalist.
In my heart of hearts, I have always cherished the idea of making crowds dance, I who have a singular love for kidney tricks, infinite swaying. Heaven smiled at me in Jacmel in January 2005, during a performance by NU LOOK. Maestro Arly LARIVIERE sang his hit song: “Why do you say you love me? “And he invited spectators to climb the podium to accompany him. This is how I joined my voice to hers and many spectators applauded my performance. It was my first contact with the public. It must be believed that this experience has remained etched in people’s memories because soon after, I was invited to sing with the group Zin at the Distinction Night Club on October 29, 2005.
A month later, I integrated Back Up in a somewhat miraculous way. A friend of mine, Zagalo, referred me to the leaders of the group who were looking for a female voice to balance the training lead. My presence was well received and it was there that I learned the ABC of stage presence. I, who believed that I could sing, I realized that it was not all a question of voice, but that it took a lot of work to become professional. I had to refine my talent in order to give quality work to the listeners who do me honor.
