ELEMENTS, Makaya’s second album has finally arrived. Five Montreal musicians pay an acoustic and jazz hommage to the Creole musical heritage : David Bontemps, piano, Jude A. Deslouches, guitar and singing(song), Nicolas Bédard, double bass, Cydric Féréol, gwo ka, Emmanuel Delly, conga drums. This opus, produced in Montreal (at Studio Piccolo) contains eleven tracks, including the single ‘Gwog Mwen’.
One of Haiti’s highest mountains, Makaya is also a Montreal-based creole jazz quintet. Nominated in 2010 for the TD Grand Jazz Award, and winner of the bronze medal at the Syli d’Or World Music competition in 2007, Makaya released an eponymic record in 2009. With a grant from the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, Makaya will release the album Elements in February during MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE, confirming its position as “a real hope in Creole jazz” (Yves Bernard, Le Devoir).
