BIOGRAPHY:
I moved to Petion-Ville at the age of 7 with my mother. One of the reasons we moved to Petion-Ville was due to my mother’s frequent visit at her friend. I attended a catholic school by the name of Jean Marie Guilloux. I remembered vividly my trips alone from Petion-Ville to Port-au-Prince in transition with a public transportation when i was only 7 years old. I love the memories of my childhood, my mother made sure they were the most memorable years of my life.
I was a bad child; I was one of those children that carried the nickname “ti dezod”. I was lucky to not have been raised in the states, because I would have been behind bars for the things I use to do. My bad deeds were not too mischievous; I would throw rocks at people and fight other kids. I was born a leader, so therefore since childhood I was always in the lead. My friends would follow my patterns, and their parents were not too happy about that.
When a child is 15 or 16 years old, they feel like they know it all and that’s how I felt, I was having fun and I thought at the time I was the man. It is amazing to see the major differences of the Yves Joseph that I am now, to the one I use to be.
I have an extensive scholar background and I am proud to have my education as a back up. I graduated with a degree in Education. I have accomplished so many wonderful things in my life that I often praised the lord for giving me the opportunity to know how it is to be successful and understand the meaning of self-satisfaction. I held many “high” positions, I worked with the big heads, and sip champagne with some of the best; however I have never forgotten where I come from, nor where I am heading. In one of my jobs at the United Nations for the Congo Mission, I met Fidel Castro, that was an experience of it’s own; watch out for my soon to be released book about my life for the complete details of that encounter.
One of my dreams was to one day hear the title Attorney in front of my name, but I guess when I made the decision to join the Compas world I also made the decision to let that dream along with a few other wishes float with the wind. I like helping those who are in needs, which was my main purpose in wanting to become a lawyer, to represent our community.
When I reminisce of the past of Tabou Combo I don’t see where the 32 years have gone, it seems as if only yesterday in 1968, a few friends got together to have fun. Most of the guys in the group grew up loving music; Herman was part of the schools marching band. I on the other hand was always a lover of sport. My favorite past time used to be playing soccer and hanging out with the girls. I am surprise that today I am a composer, and a writer; I am proudly one of the best writer and composer in the band.
At a point in my life, I was in love with lands and cars, which is why I ended up purchasing four homes and many cars. However, my greatest accomplishment comes from those genuine individuals who have given me the honor of being their role model. I met this guy recently at SOB’s who said to me “In my eyes, you are the synonym of success”, his words sank deep into my soul, and for one split second I felt the tears of happiness burning my eyes, but I held them back.
I think I could have been more successful, but I never regret anything or any paths that I have chosen; I do strongly believe that had I been in another environment and profession I would have accomplished much more with my life. I am one of those over achievers that are always aiming for the maximum; often I drive to certain neighborhoods and see a house seating on a one acre of land and I say to myself I could have own one of these homes, with indoor pools. I am contempt with my life; I have a beautiful family with two sons and a daughter that are the core of my life.
I love to play tennis; my tennis rackets are my traveling partners, I travel with them so I can play whenever and wherever I find the opportunity. I love jogging although these past few weeks I have not had the chance to do so due to the new album “SANS LIMITE”. I love reading and these days I am what you can call a computer addict. I find myself waking up at 4 am to log on line and read my messages, which is unbelievable to me. Technology is a newfound love for me.
FANFAN’S VIEWS ON WOMEN
I love women and I could not imagine my life without them. My mother was my role model in life, she thought me strength, unity and most of all respect. We were not rich, but she provided me with all of the necessities that I needed. Women in my eyes should be valued, and cherished as the rare jewels that they are. In my eyes there is no pedestal high enough to place a women. The best gift I received from my beautiful mother was her unlimited love and support, which I have been able to utilize and pass on to my children and others. When she passed away two years ago I could not bring myself to attend the viewing, because I wanted to keep the happy portrait of her memories in my mind.
FANFAN’S MOST/LEAST MEMORABLE MOMENTS
My most memorable moment was when Tabou Combo released “NY City”. It was my first experience with a major recording label. I had the chance to see how stars are and should be treated. As a star, you get pampered; people do everything for you, they think, write, and even read for you. My most recent happy memory was our 30th anniversary in Zenith, I felt we were really blessed and it was a wonderful experience for all of us.
My least favorite moment was when Skah Shah came to NY and we lost all of our fans to Skah Shah. A few times our events would have about five attendees the most; because everyone went to Skah Shah, instead of giving up we closed the doors and practiced, and wrote songs. Need I say more?
My other least favorite moment was when Tabou Combo got named a “defacto” band; that rumor almost destroyed us and it had impacted my life tremendously. I encouraged myself by saying that if Jesus Christ came on earth to save us and in the process got crucified, than I guess I am not exempt. When we rebounded from the pains, betrayals, and turmoil’s we came back stronger than ever, and no one have been able to catch up with us since.
FANFAN’S VIEWS ON LIFE
I think life is beautiful, during our passage on this earth, my advice to you, is to accomplish the most and benefit the most out of your years. What ever you feel like doing, do it right and you must do it while you are breathing. Never forget to give your all to the ones you have, for tomorrow is not promised to any of us. First and foremost love your self in order for another to love you; give respect in other to receive the reciprocity.
FANFAN’S MESSAGE
Love one another respect one another. Don’t hesitate to give a brother or a sister a helping hand. You receive double for every thing you give, and every thing you offer.
I thank all of my fans, for their unlimited support and love. Tabou Combo’s success are your success.
PEACE AND LOVE,
“WAKITESA”
