When I was a young boy I followed my brothers around along with their group LES VIKINGS and I would mostly listen to the same type of music as they would. My brothers are the main reason that I became a musician. I attended rehearsal, events, and I also attended many recording settings with them. I knew all of the basic of music even before I became a bass player.
I practiced and play around with all of the band instruments, the first instrument that caught my attention was the drums, and I played the drums for about a year. One of my brothers thought me a few musical notes on his guitar and I would often play around with it breaking the cords with almost every note. I played the saxophone in High School and I studied music theory in High School and in College. I can play most instruments, however I was always hypnotize by the thundering bass sound which was usually the key effect that would rumble my body and lead me unto the dance floor.
I love everything that deals with music, radio, records, going to Clubs etc… I use to go out almost every day. I can dance my heart out just by listening and feeling the bass. I became a bass freak. I use to practice every day and I would go on for most of the hours in the day. My bass use to be my breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
My debut in music was with an American Funk/Soul band. I have performed with R&B;, Funk, Pop Rock, House, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Latin, Soca and Reggae bands. I enjoyed playing in these bands because they had a variety of styles. In 1985, I got my first debut into the Compas world with a band name “Klinick Band.” Within the same year, two other musicians and myself formed a band that that I named “Sakad”. I quickly became known in the industry. In 1986, System Band made me an offer to join them as a member; and in 1989 Tabou Combo offered me to come on board as part of their team as well. I rejected both proposals because at the time I was involved with too many bands, but mostly in the American market.
A few years later I felt a calling into the Haitian music; I begin playing in various Albums. I played in both of Riske’ release, Papash’s, Vag’s, Djetx, Soussa, Kwaze to name a few.
In addition to being a Bass player I am also a Recording Engineer. I recorded and mix Ban’m Pase and Pran San’w both by Emeline Michel as well as Kwaze’s album. I edited some tracks for the group 98 Degrees, I did some mastering for Eddy Garcia a Latin artist, I edited for RZA from WU-Tang.
Being a Bassist, Producer, Composer, Arranger, Recording and Mastering Engineer is very hard for me, it’s a tremendous obligation and it requires most of my energy and time. I take my Engineering career as important as I take my talents as a bass player, and I plan to utilize all of my skills in Tabou and in other projects. The art of music comes to me with no limits.
I love being part of Tabou Combo but most of all I enjoy performing in front of 25,000 people which I have never done prior with a Haitian band.
