Carlo, Richard, Mickael… CaRiMi. They have known each other for more than 10 years in Haiti where they all started.
Carlo Vieux started in music at age 13, when his mother signed him up for piano lessons. He immediately formed the group Tic-Tac with a childhood friend, then decided, after admiring his idol Fabrice Rouzier (producer of the famous Haitian Troubadours ) to be a member of Kdans , where he finally had the opportunity to play in a “live” group. “This period marked me a lot,” he says. He had the opportunity to accompany Jean-Michel Rotin during a tour in the USA and developed his other talent as a singer. He had to leave after 4 years to continue his studies in the United States, New York more precisely.
From the age of 3, Richard Cavé was already singing with his father, a very common talent in this family. He started playing the piano at age 9 when his father bought him his first keyboard, but took it away when he noticed his studies were affected, as he is passionate about what he does. So he quietly continued to make music and even helped the band Kdans to make their first album. He works with the group Papash , co-produced with his cousin Alan Cavé , of the group Zin, the hit “ Chéri Mennen’m Ale ”, composes the biggest hits of the group King Posse of which he was a member, then once again with Kdans on their 2nd album on the track “Valérie” “It’s so funny, my father loved these songs but didn’t know that it was me who produced them!” “ After these successes there, he went to study, also in New York.
As a kid, Mickael Guirand always found something to use as a microphone when he wanted to sing for the family. He sang in a choir for 3 years, then started a group, Bigay . They only played twice, but he fell in love with Kompa. He was invited by his friend Carlo to do the backing vocals on Kdans’ album , and since then they have kept him in the group as backing vocalist. But his real moment of glory was when Richard asked him to sing a piece he composed for a music competition, ” Mouche Tonton Noël “. They had the first prize and it was then that he began to take his singing career in hand, but was forced to finish his studies, like the other two in New York.
Destiny wanted these three to come together: Carlo and Michael, having worked together for at least 4 years, decide to form a group. They ask Richard to join them, look for a name, and find, Ca (Carlo), Ri (Richard), and Mi (Mickael).
They finish after 2 years their first album Bang Bang, the title which seems to mark all the generations of the country as well as others sympathetic to the problems of Haiti, their feelings being strongly expressed in it. They create a new style, a mixture of new generation Kompa, a formula that makes you dance, leaving no one indifferent.
Many concerts followed, in the United States, Haiti, the Caribbean, metropolitan France, Africa and Polynesia, during which the large audience made Carimi one of the most applauded groups in Creole music.
With their eighth album, “Buzz”, released in the West Indies at the end of 2009, they refine their style, and still offer us a range of hits , including the flagship title, Buzz .
