Gasman Pierre, widely recognized by his stage name Gazzman Couleur, was born on August 22 in Gonaïves, Haiti, the historic city where Haiti’s independence began. He is the son of the late Gaspard “Caillou” Pier and Anociade Saint-Juste. His father, who was a politician, activist, and football player, passed away when Gasman was only four years old. Raised by his mother, who ran a business and provided steady guidance, he learned values of strength, compassion, and perseverance that would shape his life.

Soccer was a central passion in his family, and he and his brothers played the sport for years. His older brother, Sonche Pierre, went on to become head coach of the Haitian national football team and served as a role model for Gasman. His mother later made the decision to send his siblings to the United States for safety during difficult times in Haiti, while keeping Gasman by her side as the youngest. Eventually, due to increasing political instability, he too was sent to the U.S., reuniting with his siblings but living apart from his mother.

In America, he lived with different family members, including his brother Guerdes, his sister Moumoune before her passing, and later Sonche and Arioste. He focused on school, part-time work, and soccer, until a serious knee injury in 1995 forced him to step away from the sport. That loss pushed him toward his first passion, music. By the end of 1995, he had written and produced his first album, An Nou Fèl a 2, with the support of Naser Chery, Felder Antoine, Fred Paul, and Doff Chancy.

In 1996, Gasman joined Jean Herard Richard “Richie” in Tah Pajj, and in 1997 co-founded D-Zine with Arly Larivière and Francis Thelismond. In 2000, he became a founding member of Nu Look, and in 2010 launched his own project, diSIP de Gazzman Couleur, supported by his longtime mentor Patrick Fabre. He is the only Haitian singer to achieve major success with three different bands: D-Zine, Nu Look, and diSIP.

Gasman’s influences range from Ti Manno, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Roger Colas, and Ansy Derose to Haitian artists like Shoubou, Emeline Michel, Fabrice Rouzier, Don Kato, and Richie. He has also drawn inspiration from international names such as Alpha Blondy, Ralph Thamar, and Marvin Sapp, as well as younger Haitian talents like TroubleBoy, MechansT, and WendyyyKing. His work with diSIP produced four albums: Mission (2010), VikTwa (2013), Klere Yo (2016), and Loreya (2019). Songs like Legacy, J’ai brûlé les étapes, and Psaumes 150 highlight his artistic range and creativity.

His journey has not been without hardship. He experienced the loss of his sister, the imprisonment and deportation of his brother Arioste, and later the passing of his mother in 2016. Despite these challenges, he continued to build his career with determination.

Gasman Pierre, known to audiences as Gazzman Couleur, is today recognized as one of the most influential figures in Haitian music. A singer, songwriter, and producer, he has built a legacy through resilience, consistency, and dedication to his craft. For him, music has always been both a profession and a refuge, and the stage remains the place where he feels most at home, sharing his voice with fans around the world.
