Haitian Artists Blocked from Entering U.S. as 2025 Travel Ban Shuts Down Artist Visas/-Atis Ayisyen Pa Ka Antre Ozetazini Akoz Nouvo Entèdiksyon Viza an 2025

OpastaffBy OpastaffJune 19, 20255 Mins Read

Haitian musicians and performers are among the many nationals now barred from entering the United States following a newly reinstated travel ban issued by former President Donald Trump. While the order does not directly target artist visas, the broad immigration restriction signed under Presidential Proclamation 10949 has effectively stopped all new visa applications from Haitian nationals, including those needed for musical and cultural work.

The proclamation, which took effect on June 9, 2025, lists Haiti as one of 12 countries completely blocked from both immigrant and nonimmigrant visa access. This includes essential artist visa categories such as O-1 for individuals with extraordinary ability and P-1 and P-3 for performers and cultural groups.

Although the order does not specifically mention artists, it functions as a complete shutdown of opportunities for Haitian musicians. Any performer hoping to attend U.S. festivals, collaborate with American artists, or go on tour cannot apply for the necessary visa.

Only Haitian nationals already inside the United States before the effective date may continue under their current status. New visa applicants are automatically disqualified.

Fully banned countries (no entry and no new visas):
Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

Partially banned countries (with limited access to some visa types):
Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

These measures were implemented under the banner of national security, but critics argue they are discriminatory and disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, including creatives and cultural ambassadors.

Exploring Alternatives Outside the United States

In response to the restrictions, Haitian artists are exploring other international markets:

  • Canada is welcoming, particularly in Quebec, where Haitian Creole and Caribbean music are embraced.

  • France and Belgium offer platforms for cultural exchange and maintain more inclusive artist visa policies.

  • The Caribbean and Latin America remain accessible for regional tours and performances, especially in places like the Dominican Republic, Martinique, and Guadeloupe.

Artists already in the United States are adapting by working locally and pursuing digital collaborations. However, the ban has already disrupted events, album promotion, and potential career milestones for many who rely on international exposure.

Even though the 2025 travel restrictions do not name musicians directly, the consequences for Haitian artists are clear. With no access to artist visas, their ability to perform, tour, or collaborate in the U.S. is frozen. For a community that has shaped Caribbean music for decades, this is more than just a policy shift. It is a cultural loss that silences new voices and limits artistic growth.

Atis Ayisyen Pa Ka Antre Ozetazini Akoz Nouvo Entèdiksyon Viza an 2025

Jen 2025 – Mizisyen ak atis Ayisyen yo antre nan lis nasyonalite ki pa ka antre Ozetazini apre ansyen Prezidan Donald Trump reinstale yon entèdiksyon imigrasyon atravè Pwoklamasyon Prezidansyèl 10949. Malgre pa gen okenn entèdiksyon ki vize atis dirèkteman, desizyon sa a bloke tout demann pou nouvo viza, enkli viza atistik, pou Ayisyen.

Pwoklamasyon an, ki pran efè depi 9 jen 2025, mete Ayiti sou lis 12 peyi kote sitwayen yo pa ka jwenn okenn viza pou imigre ni pou vizit tanporè.

Afganistan, Birmani (Myanma), Tchad, Repiblik Kongo, Gine Ekwatoryal, Erytre, Ayiti, Iran, Libi, Somali, Soudan, Yemèn.

Peyi ak entèdiksyon pasyèl (akses limite pou kèk viza):
Burundi, Kiba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Tirkmenistan, Venezyela.

  • Kanada – espesyalman nan Quebec kote mizik Ayisyen ak kreyòl resevwa anpil apresyasyon.

  • Frans ak Bèljik – kote gen plis ouvèti pou echanj kiltirèl epi viza pou atis yo pi aksesib.

  • Karayib la ak Amerik Latin – tankou Repiblik Dominikèn, Matinik, ak Gwadloup, kote gen plis opòtinite pou pèfòmans ak kolaborasyon.

Atis ki deja Ozetazini ap adapte tèt yo ak kondisyon an, swa atravè kolaborasyon lokal oswa dijital. Men gen anpil ki deja pèdi kontra, evènman, oswa okazyon pou mete karyè yo sou pye.

Malgre pa gen yon entèdiksyon ki site atis Ayisyen dirèkteman, pwoklamasyon sa a fè li enposib pou yo jwenn viza pou antre Ozetazini. Se pa sèlman yon kesyon imigrasyon, men yon kesyon silans kiltirèl. Pou yon pèp ki deja make mizik Karayib la ak mond lan, sa se pa yon not manke – se yon baryè pou ekspresyon, koneksyon ak vizibilite.
