Everybody is on Will Smith’s back this past week for slapping Chris Rock after he made fun of his wife. And some people are even saying that his wife has embarrassed him in the past when she “allegedly” cheated on him so he shouldn’t defend her. Just because some of you guys out there are more ego driven than love, doesn’t mean every man should feel that way or conduct themselves in such a way.
We don’t even know half of the things Will has done to her yet they found a common ground to coexist. Some of you just run to another relationship not caring who is affected in the process.; and we wonder why there are so many broken homes. I’m in no way saying it’s OK to stay in an abusive relationship, I’m saying your ego shouldn’t be the deciding factor when making life altering decisions.
Comedians should get checked sometimes too, however, violence shouldn’t be included. I remember coming back from Haiti as part of a rescue mission group and Amy Shummer said to the group of nurses, social workers and first responders who attended one of her shows that she hoped we didn’t bring AIDS back with us. Insensitivity wrapped up in a joke can get you bitch slapped because everyone has their breaking point and we can’t always control that.
Jada suffers from alopecia, which can make a lot of women insecure about themselves and we don’t know what else she might be going through. My personal opinion, it shouldn’t have happened, period starting with the joke. For those that are not aware, Jada has been the butt of Chris rocks’ jokes almost if not every time he hosts the Oscars. We’ve never really seen Will in that light before unless provoked physically but every now and then cool, calm and collected people lose their marbles too.
Will did issue an apology to Chris Rock and the academy, however, what is done is done. Chis Rocks’ tickets sold out within less than 24 hours, Will Smith lost a few deals and resigned from the academy, and alopecia awareness skyrocketed throughout the week… if you were looking for a silver lining.
