Virginia “NIA” Mahotiere was born and raised in Miami, FL. She began singing since she was an infant. NIA grew up to the sounds of her mother’s vinyl’s ranging from the Temptations, Marvin Gay, The Jackson 5, The Gap Band, Skah Shah, and Coup Cloue. These American, Haitian, French and International singers and bands have guided NIA to her musically worldwide journey. Her musical influences sparked a determination in NIA at a very young age and propelled her towards stardom. NIA began to evolve in music by joining a girl group and produced a song that was played at local radio stations in Miami.
Shortly after her experience with the girl group, NIA decided to move to New York where she joined a well established Haitian musical group, Zin, where she “to sing lead in the band. It was in NYC NIA connected with the production company, Minkah Inc. Together, NIA and Minkah Inc. worked diligently on an R&B demo that landed NIA an audition at Sony Records, with Ron Grant. Although, NIA was not signed this fueled even more her desire to sing. She decided to continue to be part of the Zin to hone her skills as and singer and performer
After more than 10 years of performing in one of the well known Haitian band, “Zin”. One of the founders of the band announces they were taking a break. During that time Nia seized the opportunity to take a break herself from the music scene and start a family. Thus, she took the break from the stage full-time, Nia was still making occasional appearances and performing as a solo artist for different venues. Over the years, Nia has collaborated with other bands, producers, and other Haitian artists, like Carimi, Alex Abellard, Lionel Bejamin, Beethova Obas, Belo, Arly Lariviere, Princess Lover, Tina, Nickenson Prudhomme, Shabba, Tina, Krys Gabriel, Princess Eud, and many more.
Nia’s passion for entertainment cannot be quantified, because she is always trying to reinvent herself to bring the best music to her fans. Now, Nia is embarking on a new journey with her band PäSH. This time around, you will see a more versatile side of Nia. Her talent and professionalism are a few reasons to why she is still one of the elite female vocalists in the Haitian Music Industry.
NIA has traveled the entire French Antilles, France, and the Ivory Coast and for past several years has performed at the “Haitian Compas Festival” in her hometown Miami, Fl.
