Now that the Christmas trees are down, the ball have finally dropped, and we hope the soup joumou was epic; it’s time to take a trip down memory lane and revisit 2015 one last time in our traditional Year in Review.  Anyone who’s familiar with this industry knows very well there’s never a dull moment in it and whenever it gets quiet that’s only because there’s a storm coming. 2015 started a little slow but really picked up momentum towards the end of the year where some of the biggest headlines were delivered.

 

Here’s a timeline of the most relevant headlines and highlights of 2015.

On January 1st 2015 Haitians all over the globe celebrated their 211th year of independence from France. In that same month Haitians were also reminded of that grim earthquake which claimed the lives of thousands of Haitians in the small nation on January 12th 2010.

Doff Chancy announced his resignation as Nu Look’s manager and then announced he’s managing diSip only to have diSip’s owners deny he was managing the band however they did contract him to handle the overseas booking for the band.

Kenny Desmangles followed his heart by leaving Zenglen to reestablish his own band with Ralph Melenas after learning Zenglen was in the process of dropping him after 8 years of service.

Disip owner and front man, Gazzman broke the hearts of many female fans when a video clip of his wedding was posted on Konpaevents.com. DiSip went on to endure rough year; musicians kept leaving the band and their booking went down.

 

The highly anticipated band battles of 2015 between Klass Vs Djakout #1, Karizma Vs Cruz La and Harmonik Vs Gabel failed quickly during the first couple months in 2015

By early February, carnival meringues are all out and musicians were prepared to bring their best on the BETON when the unthinkable happens; the second day of the carnival ended in tragedy when a high-voltage wire hit Rap Kreyol group Barikad Crew’s float. Daniel “Fantom” Darinus, one of the rappers of the group was knocked down and pandemonium broke out in the streets. Confused and scared, hundreds of people started to run for their lives resulting in a stampede leaving 12 people dead.

Alan Cave got into a  physical confrontation with an Atlanta based promoter by the name of Carlito. The details of the incident are sketchy however Carlito did issue a public apology to Alan.

 

Reginald Cange leaves Zenglen to return to his Haiti based band Fasil.

Zenglen announced Clemay and Frero as the two singers to replace Kenny Desmangles and Reginald Cange. Later on in the year Zenglen introduced another singer to replace Clemay due to Clemay’s ongoing immigration issues.

Zin & Phantoms rematch concert takes place after more than 20 years. This time around the outcome was far more different. Phantoms never got to finish their full set and Zin went on to claim victory.

After deciding not to perform at the Zin Vs Phantoms rematch concert due to contract disagreement with the promoter; Georgy gave an interview explaining her decision also alleging her former band leader Alex started to court her before she was of legal age. Georgy received a lot of sympathy from fans with one even making a $5,000 donation to help her towards her album release. No word yet on the progress or a release date of the album.
